On November 9, 2021, join Andersen LLP partners Warren Dueck and Krista Rabidoux for an overview of U.S. federal estate gift tax issues for U.S. citizens living in Canada and Canadians with U.S. situs assets.

The U.S. taxes asset transfers during an individual’s lifetime (gift tax) and at death (estate tax). These taxes apply to the net value of the asset transferred, not the net gain. Canada only taxes the net gain on assets transferred both before or after death. Understanding when U.S. federal estate or gift tax applies can help you avoid costly surprises and determine options to plan for asset transfers.

Topics on the agenda will include:

  1. U.S. estate tax
  2. U.S. gift tax
  3. Tax domicile v. residency
  4. Canadians with a U.S. citizen spouse
  5. Canada-U.S. tax treaty

There will be an opportunity to ask questions at the end of the presentation.

When: Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at 9am Pacific Time
