Warren Dueck Celebrates 24 Years with Andersen LLP
Entrepreneur. Visionary. Expert tax strategist. Consummate professional. Renaissance man. All are ways to describe our partner, Warren Dueck. This week Warren marked 24 exciting and successful years with our firm. He built the business providing bespoke cross-border tax services initially from his kitchen table and later from W.L. Dueck & Co. LLP offices in Steveston, British Columbia. W.L. Dueck & Co. LLP became a member firm of Andersen Global in 2018 and renamed itself as Andersen LLP.
Warren continued to shape our expansion and progress by heading to Calgary in 2013 for 6 years to establish our presence in Alberta. The firm’s Steveston office also moved to larger premises in downtown Vancouver in 2019. From the firm’s beginning in 1998, we’ve gone from a staff of 1 (Warren himself) to a vibrant team of 36 talented professionals in two offices serving clients across western Canada, the United States and other countries.
To say Warren is accomplished is an understatement. His career spans 42 years of helping individuals and businesses address U.S. and cross-border tax issues. Before founding his firm, he was an Ernst & Young tax partner in Vancouver and began his career at KPMG in Seattle just after the eruption of Mt. St. Helens in June 1980. He has professional credentials as a Certified Public Accountant in Washington and a Chartered Professional Accountant in Canada and is a fellow of the CPA professional body in B.C. (FCPA and FCA) – a distinction awarded to members of the profession who have rendered exceptional service to the profession and whose achievements in career and community have brought honour to the accounting profession.
One of Warren’s key strengths is his ability to analyze complex tax scenarios and explain solutions in an understandable and actionable way. Warren is, at his core, an exceptional problem solver, educator and coach. Early in his career he was an adjunct tax instructor at Seattle Pacific University and has taught tax professionals across Canada. He has also coached hockey, soccer, baseball, and other sports.
Warren’s tax advice is meticulous and founded on achieving client business goals, ensuring compliance and protection from exposure to tax liabilities and penalties. In Warren’s world, it’s not enough to send out pro forma reporting letters on work done. He goes the extra mile to make sure that clients fully understand their tax positions and the rationale for the firm’s approach. He is largely responsible for expanding the firm’s client and referral education efforts from developing our Top 5 Tax Issues blog series to regular participation in our popular Tax 101 webinars.
Warren is also a role model for our team on professionalism, client relations management, and business development. He is a born networker and is determined to pass along his knowledge and skills to all team members. A simple thank you doesn’t cover it. Professionally and personally, Warren Dueck is why we are where we are today.
So, congratulations on 24 successful years doing what you love, Warren. We are very proud to be part of your team.
